Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) is hiring a Software Developer to design, build, and maintain mobile applications and internal software used across the library system. This is an on-site, full-time, exempt position based at Central Library's Information Technology office in downtown Tulsa. The role sits on the Enterprise Services team and supports departmental operations and strategic goals.
The job covers the full software lifecycle: gathering and analyzing requirements with internal stakeholders and leaders, designing and developing user interfaces, integrating with on-premises and hosted systems through vendor APIs, testing, documenting, and supporting deployments. You will also evaluate whether to build custom solutions or recommend purchased alternatives and keep technical knowledge current.
Technical skills and experience required
- Full-stack web development experience.
- Mobile app development for Android and iOS.
- Designing, building, and using RESTful APIs.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript front-end development and UI/UX design.
- Familiarity with the full software development life cycle.
- Knowledge of relational database design, programming, and optimization (MySQL noted).
- Practical experience with revision control systems (Git).
- Experience with reactive JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js and with PHP.
- Python and Node.js experience.
- Drupal or WordPress development.
- Windows desktop development.
The posted requirement is a bachelor's degree plus one to three years of experience in web and/or mobile application development. The role is described as junior level but expects hands-on skills across both web and mobile platforms.
Compensation, benefits, and schedule
Candidates are encouraged to include a link to a public code repository to demonstrate written code and documentation. The job emphasizes user-centered service development and continuous improvement practices, so examples of iterative work, testing, and documentation will support an application.
Work is on-site at the Central Library: 400 Civic Center, Tulsa, OK 74103. The posting notes occasional minor physical demands (stooping, light lifting up to ~20 pounds) and routine video display terminal use.
Practical next steps for applicants
Prepare a concise portfolio or GitHub link that highlights full-stack projects, mobile apps (Android/iOS), and API integrations. Show examples of UI work and database interactions. Be ready to explain decisions about custom versus purchased solutions and to discuss how you managed testing, deployment, and maintenance on past projects.
