A five-story, 300,000-square-foot museum from George Lucas and Mellody Hobson opens Sept. 22, 2026, with a broad collection that includes thousands of Star Wars artifacts plus paintings, comics, and historic visual storytelling.
The building is roughly 300,000 square feet with about 100,000 square feet of gallery space across more than 30 galleries.
The museum sits on a multi-acre site with new public parks and gardens and cost more than $1 billion to build.

"The picture is very powerful, and the stories are very powerful, and you combine them together, and those two elements create a society," Lucas said. The museum includes 100,000 square feet of gallery space and more than 30 galleries, according to CEO Tracey Bates. Admission will cost $25 for adults, and visitors under 18 can get in for free.
Construction began in Exposition Park in 2018. The collection extends well beyond the "Star Wars" universe. Bringing the museum to life was a lengthy undertaking for the filmmaker.
