Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel condemned a Truth Social post that depicted Cuba under a U.S. flag, declaring Cuba will never again be a colony and pledging to defend its sovereignty.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez replied with sarcasm aimed at U.S. messaging, while Havana points to a growing economic squeeze: an $8.08 billion cost from the U.S. embargo in one year and a protracted economic contraction.
The map circulated by former President Trump showed U.S. colors over Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Iceland, and parts of the Caribbean and Central America, worsening already high bilateral tensions.
