The useful part
Knit a Scarf Studded with Muppets – Knitting I guess I'm on a bit of a double knitting tear these days. Just the other day I shared some double knitting potholder patterns, and if you're ready for a more complex double knitting pattern, I would love to recommend this one to you. Piggy, of course, as well as Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Beaker, Rowlf the Dog, Rizzo the Rat and Sam Eagle to name a few.
How it works
- There are charts in the pattern that show you how to work the whole scarf in two colors or use multiple colors for the different characters.
- You just really need to pay attention to the charts to make sure you're making your characters look how they are supposed to.
- I couldn't get gauge, which I suppose is my own problem, but mainly I was somehow both bored and forced to pay attention at the same time.
- It's up to you to decide how much ease you would like and whether that will work for your body.
- As shown the scarf uses 20 colors of fingering weight yarn.
What to take from it
Because it used the same cable all over, I always had to know what row I was on, but nine out of ten of those rows, nothing in particular was going on. So I couldn't stop paying attention, but what I needed to attend to was boring. It has allover cables, but like a classic Aran sweater it's not the same cable, so you'll have to pay attention to what row you're on and what cable turns happen for which cables on that row.
Example or evidence
- The scarf is densely packed with characters who are different colors on each side.
- You'll need about 656 yards/600 meters of each if you use two colors, and a range for the different characters if you do them all in different colors, but only a couple of them take more than 50 yards.
- The finished scarf is about 6.4 inches/16.3 cm wide and 72.4 inches or 184 cm long.
- While this project looks a lot more complicated than those pot holders I just shared, the skills are the same.
Details worth keeping
There are also photos and links to video tutorials to help you along the way. You can grab a copy of the pattern on Ravelry. Not too long ago I did a test knit for another designer that was for a cabled cardigan.
