Louis Moinet has a long association with astronomy in its watchmaking. The Moon Meteor continues that line by combining mechanical moonphase accuracy with rare natural materials and hand-decorated micro-art. The result is an object intended more as a collector's miniature tableau of the sky than a conventional, utilitarian wristwatch.
The dial is the Moon Meteor's focal point. A hand-painted miniature depicts a vivid daytime celestial landscape rendered under a binocular microscope with extremely fine brushes and layered lacquer and varnish. Luminescent material is integrated into the painting so elements of the scene change visually after dark. Timekeeping uses faceted, skeletonised, luminescent hands.
Moinet calibre LM113, an automatic movement developed with Concepto. Technical details provided include a movement diameter of 30.4mm, thickness of 12.7mm, 29 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 48-hour power reserve. The central astronomical moon complication completes one lunar cycle and is specified to be accurate to within one day every 122 years.
The watch is supplied on a Louisiana alligator strap lined with alligator and secured by a triple-folding clasp that offers fine adjustment and carries the Louis Moinet fleur-de-lys motif. Finish work across the case, dial painting and engraved lunar disc is presented in keeping with Louis Moinet's recent high-end, space-themed releases.
This model is a limited edition of 12 pieces, each engraved "One of Twelve." The listed price is CHF 48,000.
Collectors who value unique materials and handcraft—miniature painting, meteorite slices and lunar fragments—will be the primary audience. The watch combines visual storytelling and collectible rarity with a mechanically credible moonphase, making it a piece intended for display on the wrist and in a collection rather than for sporty daily wear.
