Useful takeaways from this story.

New 9-speed electronic drivetrain with automatic shifting enables a Class 3 28 mph (45 km/h) pedal-assisted top speed and lets riders switch between Class 1/2/3 via the Segway app.

Utility and hardware upgrades: 70 mm front suspension, hydraulic 180 mm disc brakes, 20×3-inch tires, an increased 418 lb (190 kg) payload rating, optional passenger kit and cargo baskets.

What changed with the MUXI Pro

Segway has upgraded its compact MUXI short-tail cargo e-bike into a Pro version that focuses on everyday utility and rider convenience. The most visible changes are an electronic 9-speed drivetrain with automatic shifting and a bump in pedal-assisted top speed to 28 mph (45 km/h), putting it in Class 3 when selected. Riders can choose Class 1, 2, or 3 modes through the Segway app depending on local rules.

Power, range, and brake systems

Wh battery. Segway's stated maximum range is up to 73 miles (117 km), though real-world range will vary with assist level, terrain, rider weight, and conditions. The direct-drive arrangement enables regenerative braking, plus hill-descent control and hill-start assist. Traction control detects rear wheelspin. Stopping is handled by hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors.

Comfort and utility hardware

Segway added a 70 mm front suspension fork to address comfort on urban roads. The bike rolls on 20×3-inch tires and includes front and rear fenders and integrated turn signals. It retains a short-tail compact footprint but is built as a utility vehicle: total payload capacity is 418 lb (190 kg). An optional passenger kit supports passengers up to 120 lb (54 kg). Front and center baskets are available to expand cargo capacity.

Smart features and subscriptions

The MUXI Pro ships with a color TFT display that supports navigation and a suite of connected services: Apple Find My, GPS tracking, proximity-based AirLock, Lost Mode, and over-the-air updates. Segway notes some connected services will require a subscription after the first year, which is common for GPS and cellular features.

Weight, colors, price, availability

The bike weighs 82.2 lb (37.3 kg), reflecting its cargo-oriented components and battery. It comes in Anthracite and Reef Blue and is priced at $1,999.99 in the U.S. Sales begin September 22 through Segway dealers and the company's online store.

Who this is for

The MUXI Pro targets riders who want a compact cargo e-bike that can replace short car trips while remaining maneuverable in urban spaces. It emphasizes convenience (automatic shifting), climbing and descending control (torque, regen, hill assist), and utility capacity (payload, optional passenger kit) without growing into a full-size long-tail cargo bike footprint.

Practical considerations

  • Connected features may incur ongoing subscription fees after the included period.

The MUXI Pro packages electronic shifting, suspension, regenerative systems, and a broad set of connected services into a relatively compact cargo platform, priced to compete with mainstream mid-market cargo e-bikes while keeping a short-tail footprint.
