What happened
Metallica extended the M72 World Tour into spring 2027 with a 12-date North American stadium leg. The new run opens May 8, 2027 at BC Place in Vancouver and concludes June 19, 2027 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. Limp Bizkit and Avatar will open every show on the stretch.
Why it matters
This announcement adds another sizable North American stadium run to a tour that began in April 2023. By the time the Vancouver date arrives, M72 will have been active for four years. The tour has already covered 99 shows in 26 countries, and nearly five million people had attended through the band's recent two-night engagement at London Stadium on July 3 and 5, 2025.
The 2027 stadium leg comes after Metallica completes a months-long Sphere residency in Las Vegas called Life Burns Faster (Oct 1, 2026–Mar 13, 2027), so the band's live schedule remains unusually ambitious.

What to expect next
Fan-club and partner presales in late September determine initial ticket access. The tour's schedule positions this stadium leg immediately after the band's Sphere residency ends in mid-March 2027, leaving a multi-week gap before the May start. The announced dates bring Metallica to a dozen cities not previously visited during the current M72 run.
