SCAN Health Plan and Walmart announced a collaboration to launch a co-branded Medicare Advantage offering in two states. The companies say the plans will link SCAN's Medicare experience with Walmart's retail health services and technology. The announcement frames the partnership as an effort to make health services more connected to everyday consumer routines.
The companies specified potential components that would require regulatory review and approval before becoming available to members. Those components include:
- Pharmacy services.
- Vision services.
- Food and over‑the‑counter benefits.
- Use of Walmart's Everyday Health Signals platform to surface personalized wellness insights for members who opt in.
SCAN: The nonprofit health plan will supply Medicare product design, care experience knowledge, and member management capabilities. SCAN's national general manager, Zack Myers, framed the collaboration around personalization and data use: "At SCAN, we believe healthcare is better when it is personalized to the individual, and when members choose to opt in, data can help us deliver a more relevant experience tailored to their needs."
Walmart: Walmart will provide retail‑level access to pharmacy, vision, food and other health and wellness services, plus technology and data capabilities tied to Everyday Health Signals. Pravene Nath, Walmart U.S. Group Director for Consumer Health and Data Solutions, said Walmart has helped customers navigate Medicare choices for more than a decade and highlighted Walmart's frequent role in customers' everyday lives as a differentiator.
The companies emphasized that all offerings are pending regulatory review and approvals. The initial announcement covers a Medicare Advantage plan in two states. No launch dates, specific state names, enrollment windows, premiums, or benefit levels were provided in the announcement.
SCAN has recently announced other retail partnerships. Notably, SCAN expanded a partnership with Costco earlier in the year that included Medicare Advantage products across select states and a Medicare supplement option in another state. That move followed a trend of retail brands exploring deeper roles in Medicare products by pairing their customer reach with insurer capabilities.
If regulators approve the plan design, participating Medicare beneficiaries could see benefit packages that integrate retail services and personalized guidance tied to everyday shopping and pharmacy use. The proposed structure is positioned to make nutrition and routine care more reachable through retailers members already visit. Participation in data‑driven personalization features would be optional, according to SCAN's statement about opt‑in data use.
The SCAN–Walmart collaboration aims to combine SCAN's Medicare expertise with Walmart's retail footprint and data tools to create co‑branded Medicare Advantage offerings. Key details—states served, benefit specifics, costs, and launch timing—remain subject to regulatory approval and further company disclosures.
