sonicLAB updates PROTEAN to v2

The useful part

PROTEAN merges fluid dynamic simuPROTEANlation with advanced sound synthesis algorithms. It has a shape-shifting audiovisual synthesis engine where fluid particle interactions generate metamorphosing sonic texture. The audio engine now uses less processing power, handles silent voices more efficiently, and remains stable during preset changes.

How it works

• The version2 offers the following improvements and features:
• Protean v2 is a free upgrade for existing Protean users.
• Preset changes, voice resets, gain movement and spatial panning are now smoother, with fewer sudden level changes.
• Pitch and envelope timing now remain accurate with FM synthesis, modulation, pitch variation and the separation between emitters A and B have also been improved.
• Protean can now create an additional 16-channel third-order AmbiX render export alongside the normal stereo export.

What to take from it

The Ambisonic file uses: ACN channel order, SN3D normalization, 32-bit floating-point audio. It comes with OS X (universal) and Windows versions, needs a CPU minimum to Apple M1 or equivalent.

Details worth keeping

Each particle is positioned using its full 3D location. Protean v2 can be purchased for £115 pounds at sonicLAB webshop. Also the Protean Remote control VST3/AU utility is included in the bundle.
