Chubb Limited has created a new enterprise role, chief scientist and executive vice president, and appointed Sean Ringsted to it. The role gives him responsibility for Chubb's artificial intelligence, data and analytics strategy and initiatives worldwide.
At the same time, Technical Risk Underwriters (TRU), the managing general underwriter within Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers that focuses on complex first-party construction risks, announced internal promotions: Nick Hays to president and Aaron Reissner to executive vice president.
Chubb's new role signals an organizational focus on centrally coordinating AI, data and analytics across the company's global operations. Ringsted already led Chubb's AI efforts and served previously in several senior roles that combined actuarial, risk and digital responsibilities. TRU's moves point to continued investment in technology-driven underwriting and risk management for construction projects.
Ringsted has more than 30 years of experience at Chubb and ACE Group. His recent titles included executive vice president, Chubb Group and chief digital business officer, and he has been the company's global AI lead. His prior roles at Chubb and ACE include:
- Chief risk officer, 2008–2023
- Chief digital officer, named in 2017
- Chief actuary, 2004–2017
- Executive vice president and chief risk officer for ACE Tempest Re, 2002–2004
- Senior vice president and chief actuary for ACE Tempest Re, 1998–2002
Before joining ACE, Ringsted worked as a consultant at Tillinghast-Towers Perrin. In the new position he will direct AI, data and analytics strategy and initiatives worldwide for Chubb.
Nick Hays was promoted earlier this year to president of TRU. Hays joined TRU in 2023 and is credited with contributing to the company's risk management platform. Background details in the announcement note Hays is a former Navy SEAL, has worked as a Fortune 500 solutions architect, and has been a performance coach for NBA and NFL organizations.
Aaron Reissner was promoted to executive vice president. He has been with the TRU team since 2012 and is described as having expertise in course of construction risks and strong industry relationships.
TRU is promoting a modern, technology-driven approach to construction risk through its TRU Risk Management Platform. The platform is designed for builders' risk projects and aims to give brokers, clients and carriers greater visibility into:
- Project activity across the construction lifecycle
- Loss control initiatives and site conditions
- Emerging risks that may affect projects
What this means for brokers and carriers
TRU's leadership changes signal a push to expand the TRU Risk Management Platform and integrate more operational and risk visibility tools into builders' risk placements. Brokers and carrier partners can expect an emphasis on project-level data, loss control integration and ongoing site monitoring.
These personnel changes are framed as strategic rather than routine: Chubb is consolidating AI and analytics leadership under a single chief scientist role filled by an executive with deep institutional experience, while TRU is elevating internal leaders to build out a tech-focused construction risk platform.
