Showa suspension, Brembo Stylema front caliper with a 310mm Galfer floating disc, and Metzeler Racetec Slick SM tyres are fitted as standard to suit supermoto tracks.

Electronics include a patented Ducati Traction Control calibrated for supermoto, four adjustable levels, Launch Control, Engine Brake Control, and active quick-shift upshifts.

Maintenance intervals: piston replacement and valve checks every 45 hours, full engine overhaul at 90 hours, oil change every 15 hours.

# What the Desmo450 SM is

Ducati took its Desmo450 MX motocross platform and reworked it for supermoto competition. The result is the Desmo450 SM, presented during World Ducati Week as a bike built to race rather than a cosmetic variant. It keeps the Desmo450's desmodromic valve train while changing suspension, wheels, tyres, brakes, final drive, clutch and electronics for tarmac-focused performance.

# Chassis and suspension changes

At the rear, a fully adjustable Showa shock works with a progressive link and offers 295 mm of wheel travel. Settings and valving are tuned to deliver traction and balance across mixed sections of a supermoto circuit.

Rims are 16.5" front and 17" rear with an Excel profile and Bartubeless system that removes inner tubes and reduces rotating and unsprung mass by 1.2 kg. Factory-fitted tyres are Metzeler Racetec Slick SMs—the same rubber used in the World Championship.

# Brakes, driveline and engine features

Front braking is handled by a Brembo Stylema radial caliper biting a 310 mm Galfer floating disc with an aluminium flange. Rear braking uses a 240 mm Galfer disc with a Brembo floating caliper. The transmission includes active Quick Shift for upshifts and a Suter slipper clutch tuned to help manage side-slip entering corners.

The desmodromic valve train permits a rev limiter of 11,900 rpm, which Ducati says provides a wide operating range so riders can stay in gears longer. Final drive ratios and clutch calibration have been adjusted specifically for supermoto racing.

# Electronics package

Ducati introduced a patented traction control system for the Desmo450 SM that estimates actual rear-wheel slip and offers four adjustable levels plus an off position. The bike also includes Launch Control and Engine Brake Control, each configurable across levels of intervention. Two Riding Modes are available and can be adjusted through Ducati's X-Link app.

# Design details for racing use

Bodywork changes are functional: shortened mudguard, redesigned hand guards and shorter fork guards to make room for the larger 125/75 front slick tyre used in supermoto. The aim is a package that reduces physical strain while improving consistency and lap times for both professional and amateur riders.

# Service and maintenance

Service intervals are explicit and short, reflecting the Desmo450 SM's racing intent: piston replacement and valve clearance checks at 45 hours, full engine overhaul at 90 hours, and oil changes every 15 hours. Ducati has opted for metal seals on covers to speed servicing.

# Who it's for

This machine targets riders who want a factory-developed supermoto race bike with purpose-built suspension, braking and electronics. The specification is set up for competition use and for riders who will accept more frequent service intervals in exchange for race-ready performance.
