JSW Greentech Limited, the JSW Group's commercial electric vehicle arm, launched AMPSTAR as a dedicated brand for electric buses and trucks in India. The brand will carry the JSW endorsement as "AMPSTAR: powered by JSW." The announcement frames AMPSTAR as a full‑stack commercial mobility offering that covers the vehicle and the operating ecosystem around it.
AMPSTAR vehicles will be manufactured at a 90‑acre integrated EV facility located at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant is designed for an annual output of 15,000 electric buses and trucks. JSW describes the site as India's largest integrated EV manufacturing complex and says it will include India's first pre‑treatment and electro‑deposition (PT‑ED) line for bus manufacturing, an automated truck‑cabin line and an integrated battery ecosystem.
AMPSTAR is positioned as more than a vehicle maker. The brand's offering includes charging infrastructure, operating solutions, financing options and after‑sales support. Customers can choose between outright purchase, leasing, Battery as a Service (BaaS) and other ownership and operating models. This flexibility is aimed at reducing barriers for fleet operators and fleet owners deciding whether to switch to electric buses and trucks.
Commercial positioning and scale ambitions
JSW describes AMPSTAR's launch as an entry into commercial mobility, using the Group's industrial scale and supply chain capabilities. At the launch Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of JSW Group, framed the initiative in terms of reducing dependence on imported fuel and improving energy security. He emphasized the economic case for customers — lower logistics costs and a manufacturing ecosystem built in India — as the basis for adoption.
The combination of a large local manufacturing site, automated production lines, an integrated battery ecosystem and in‑house drivetrain control software indicates JSW aims to control key parts of the value chain. That could shorten time to scale and provide flexibility in responding to fleet requirements. The full‑stack approach—vehicles plus charging, financing and after‑sales—targets operators who want one vendor for the whole transition to electric mobility.
AMPSTAR has been launched commercially with production capacity details and engineering claims publicized. Specific delivery timelines, pricing, launch model specs and initial customer orders were not published in the primary announcement and will determine short‑term market traction.
