Useful takeaways from this story.

Four players did not practice Wednesday: Jalen Ramsey (rest), Rico Dowdle (toe), Jamel Dean (ankle), Cole Holcomb (personal).

Michael Pittman Jr. is limited with a foot/plantar fascia issue that caused him to miss Week 2 and could leave his Week 3 status uncertain.

Four players did not practice Wednesday. The team listed DB Jalen Ramsey as a non-injury-related rest day, RB Rico Dowdle with a toe issue, CB Jamel Dean with an ankle concern, and ILB Cole Holcomb with a personal matter. None of those four were on the limited/practice list for the day.

Limited participants and notable status changes

Pittman was inactive for Week 2 after being limited earlier in that week. Ian Rapoport reported a flare-up of plantar fascia in Pittman's foot. Pittman described his recovery as "day by day." He led Pittsburgh in Week 1 receiving yards but was ruled out on Saturday's injury report for Week 2. His status for Week 3 will depend on how the foot responds later in the week.

Rico Dowdle and visible precautions

Dowdle suffered the toe injury on the play that resulted in a strip and fumble against New England. He returned briefly in that game but did not finish. While the team said the toe didn't appear serious after an exam, Mike DeFabo reported Dowdle wearing a boot on his right foot Wednesday. A boot doesn't necessarily imply a major injury, but it's a sign to watch as the week progresses.

Depth implications and immediate replacements

If Dowdle or Jaylen Warren can't go, the Steelers have a thin primary depth chart at running back. Eli Heidenreich is the only other back on the 53-man roster, though Travis Homer was elevated last week and had a 16-yard carry. Practice-squad back Lew Nichols could also be an option.

In the secondary, Jamel Dean's absence late in the Patriots game put rookie Daylen Everette on the field. If Porter or Dean are unavailable for Cincinnati, Asante Samuel Jr. and Everette would see increased snaps against Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Cole Holcomb and Jalen Ramsey are expected to be available for the weekend despite Wednesday's DNP listings. The Steelers will post another injury report Thursday and the final one Friday. Pittsburgh faces Cincinnati Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

  • Michael Pittman Jr.: plantar fascia response and practice participation.
  • Rico Dowdle: whether the boot is precautionary or a sign he'll miss snaps.
  • Joey Porter Jr.: conditioning reps and whether he progresses to full practice or game-day clearance.
  • Jaylen Warren: shoulder status and workload adjustments if limited.
