Don’t Print This by Monica Chin — promo stop on Toppling Stacks Tours
Queer YA mystery about a teen who follows a missing journalist’s trail back into danger, old feelings, and a town that wants the past buried.
Useful takeaways from this story.
Freshman-turned-debate-contender Ace Li reconnects with Akash when Akash’s mother, investigative journalist Radhika Malhotra, goes missing.
Ace discovers notes on Radhika’s investigation that could lead to her, but following the trail puts his health, reputation, and his town at risk.
The book frames mystery alongside queer teen romance and explores the costs of investigation and truth-telling.
The useful part
The next day, Akash moved away without a word―and Ace was so brokenhearted he stopped eating. Ace drinks his protein shakes, swims every morning, and might even win the debate competition this year. Akash has returned because his mother, the world-famous investigative journalist Radhika Malhotra, is missing, and she was last seen in this town.
How it works
- My work has brought me to New York City, back to Lakeville, and then to South Korea, where I currently reside with my partner and cat.

- As Ace follows Radhika's trail, his stable life begins to crumble.
- Ace tries to stay away, but the second he sees Akash, the feelings he's suppressed bubble back to the surface.
- Then Ace happens upon some notes―notes about what Akash's mother was investigating.
What to take from it
If he goes public with what happened to Radhika and why, his entire town will have to pay the consequences. Winning Akash's heart might cost Ace everything, but maybe that's a sacrifice he's willing to make. Along the way, I've anchored news for KBS World Radio and appeared as a regular voice on tech podcasts and panels.

September Book Recap
It's still a little hard for some of y'all to believe, but I didn't really grow up reading. Clif Notes were a lifesaver in high school. I'd read 'enough' to get by, but I didn't enjoy the act of reading so never did it. Maybe I wasn't reading things that held my interest or maybe it was because it was "required", but w
