RØDECaster Video 1.4 brings 4K capture, individual NDI outputs, and wider Sync support

RØDE released firmware 1.4 for the RØDECaster Video lineup: the RØDECaster Video, Video S, and Video Core. The update is free and introduces two new operating modes that repurpose the consoles as dedicated multi‑camera capture and distribution devices, plus expanded Sync connectivity and additional export and input features.

4K Capture Mode accepts multiple UHD30 camera feeds over HDMI and sends each camera as its own NDI HX stream over the network. The consoles also record isolated 4K tracks (ISOs) directly to an attached SSD in H.264 or H.265.

• RØDECaster Video accepts four UHD30 HDMI inputs. Video S and Video Core accept three.
• Each camera can be recorded as an isolated 4K file to the console's attached SSD.
• Individual NDI outputs appear as custom routing destinations so each stream can carry a different audio mix.

To focus the console's octa‑core engine on capture and distribution, certain live‑production features are disabled in Capture Modes. Media and graphic playback, overlays, multi‑camera scenes, and keying are not available when in Capture Mode. Simple HDMI switching remains for monitoring. When full live‑production features are required—keying, graphics, transitions, scenes, or direct streaming—users should switch back to the default FHD Switching Mode. Switching modes triggers a console reboot.

If you need 60 fps across multiple feeds, the update also includes a Full HD Capture Mode that maintains 1080p60 across inputs while preserving isolated recording and NDI outputs. Both capture modes run the full RØDE audio mixer alongside the video capture workload.

Each NDI and ISO output is configurable as its own destination. That means, for example, one NDI stream can carry full program audio while another carries only a single microphone. Individual NDI outputs can be toggled on or off. On the original RØDECaster Video, the fourth NDI output can be assigned either to camera 4 or to a multiview (standard information display or quad mode).

If you plan multi‑camera 4K capture and want individual ISO recording and per‑output audio mixes, install firmware 1.4 and prepare an SSD for direct recording. If you rely on advanced switching features, keep in mind you must operate in FHD Switching Mode for overlays and keying. Sync now lets you distribute control and mix responsibilities across Video and Pro/Duo units while recording centrally to the Video drive.
