Breguet revamps Marine 5517 and 5527 with subtler guilloché dials and cleaner displays

# What changed

Breguet's latest update to the Marine collection is primarily a visual refresh of the Marine 5517 (time-and-date) and the Marine Chronograph 5527. The cases, core movements and overall design language remain recognizable, but the dials, markers, colors and straps have been revised to give the models a cleaner, more modern appearance.

# Dial and design updates

Date windows have been repositioned to 6 o'clock in the 5517 for better symmetry. The chronograph's dial layout is also refined to appear less heavy than earlier versions, which had unequally sized sub‑dials.

# Color and material pairings

Breguet pairs specific dial treatments with case materials rather than offering the same dial across metals. For the 5517 the combinations are:

• Titanium: dark blue dial with rose‑gold accents and a smoked lacquer effect.
• White gold: ice blue dial with dark blue‑treated accents.
• Pink (rose) gold: black dial with gold accents.

Titanium models retain a sunray or smoked treatment that reads lighter and airier compared with the previous, heavier guilloché executions.

# Case, movement and technical details

The 5517 keeps the established Marine case dimensions: 40.0 mm diameter, 11.50 mm thickness and 47.7 mm lug‑to‑lug. The case retains the deeply fluted midcase, wave‑shaped crown guards and the modular lug system that joins strap or bracelet to the case. Water resistance remains 100 meters and sapphire crystals are still fitted.

Inside the 5517 is Breguet's in‑house Calibre 777A: an automatic movement featuring an inverted in‑line lever escapement, a silicon balance spring, a 4 Hz beat rate and about a 55‑hour power reserve. Decoration includes bridges with broad stripes referencing deck planks and a rotor shaped like a ship's rudder.

# Intent and effect

This is a targeted facelift rather than a complete redesign. By moving the date to 6 o'clock, replacing Roman indices with applied Breguet numerals and introducing subtler guilloché and lacquer finishes, Breguet has reduced the previous collection's visual weight and increased legibility and refinement. The mechanical architecture and much of the Marine's nautical ornamentation remain intact.

# What to watch for

Expect the updated dials, new straps and the revised numerals to be the immediate points of comparison with earlier Marine references. The updated execution aims to make the Marine feel lighter and more contemporary while keeping the collection's historical references and established mechanical specifications.
