Useful takeaways from this story.

The Ayush services economy was estimated at USD 36.92 billion in 2024–25 and has recorded a near-17% CAGR since 2022–23.

RIS projects the sector could expand to USD 216–318 billion by 2047 if infrastructure, quality systems, skills, digital capability, and international market access improve.

# What the RIS study measured Countries (RIS) conducted a nationally scaled, establishment-level survey covering 15,914 Ayush establishments across all six Ayush systems. The survey measured revenue, employment, service mix, length of stay for medical value travel, and institutional characteristics such as websites and accreditation.

# Current size and recent growth The report places the Ayush services economy at USD 36.92 billion for 2024–25. The sector has recorded a compound annual growth rate of 16.91% since 2022–23. It directly supported about 1.76 million livelihoods and generated around USD 1.77 billion in Medical Value Travel revenue in 2024–25.

# The Ayush wellness and yoga segments The Ayush wellness segment — which includes yoga centres, spas and resorts — recorded a higher growth rate, with a CAGR of 21.29%. Yoga centres showed about 75% revenue growth over two years, driving part of the sector's rapid expansion.

# Medical Value Travel (MVT)

# Factors that raise international demand The survey found two institutional features that materially improve odds of attracting international patients:

  • A dedicated, functional website: establishments with one had 3.6 times higher odds of drawing international patients.
  • Quality accreditation (for example, NABH or ISO): accredited establishments saw roughly double the odds of attracting international patients.

# Pathways to the USD 216–318 billion range by 2047

# Workforce and inclusion The sector directly supported 1.76 million livelihoods. Over one million jobs are in local and standalone clinics. Women make up 43% of the overall workforce and account for more than 50% of workers in several organized segments.

# Practical implications for stakeholders Policymakers and investors can use the study's evidence base to target quality accreditation, digital presence (websites and records), workforce skilling, and readiness for international patients. Providers aiming to expand medical value travel should consider longer-stay therapeutic programmes and pursue recognized quality certifications.

# Bottom line Ayush services sector concentrated in clinics and wellness services, already supporting significant employment and international revenue. The path to a much larger market by 2047 depends on measurable upgrades in infrastructure, standards, skills, digital adoption, and global access.
