Starting Sept 22, Discord is placing accounts into adult, teen (13–17) or unconfirmed groups using an automated model for most users, plus multiple non-ID verification options and new restrictions for teen accounts.
Users the model can’t classify — or who want to prove they’re adults — can verify via several privacy-focused options (credit card, app-store age range, Google Wallet ID, on-device selfie, ID scan, or reusable AgeKey).
Teen accounts (13–17) are routed into a safer default experience: non-friend messages go to a requests inbox, age-restricted servers/channels are blocked, sensitive images are blurred, and profiles are limited.

Discord states the model does not read messages, calls, images, or other content.

Discord says adults will not see changes to their experience. Users who already confirmed their age do not need to verify again.
# Regional differences and prior testing The age-estimation model will not be used in the UK and Australia because Discord already operates different local systems to comply with regional rules. Discord previously expanded age checks in Texas and Brazil after those jurisdictions introduced their own age-related requirements.
Discord first announced the teen-default plan in February and initially planned a March rollout. The company delayed the global launch to the second half of 2026 to add additional verification options and address earlier concerns.
