OpenPocketCine converts your phone or tablet into a field monitor and remote controller for DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and 4P. It is open-source under the Apache-2.0 license and produced by a community of filmmakers and developers. The creator, Erik Sutton, reverse-engineered the camera's communication protocols to enable the feature set.
The app includes common professional monitoring aids: waveform, RGB parade, vectorscope, false color, zebras, focus peaking, and custom frame guides. You can load your own LUTs to preview looks on set. On larger displays such as an iPad you can place and resize waveform, histogram, and vectorscope elements around the picture for a cleaner, configurable monitor layout.
Camera control and automated behaviors
Face tracking is handled by using the phone's native vision libraries (for example Apple's Vision framework on iOS or equivalent Android tools) to detect faces and produce a coordinate box around the subject. The app transmits these coordinates to the Osmo Pocket using the same command structure the camera supports for tracking, enabling the camera to lock to and follow a subject while maintaining focus.
Usability in different orientations Tools such as zebras, peaking, false color, waveform, Traffic Lights, guides and grid remain available when the phone is held vertically, keeping monitoring consistent for handheld setups and social-oriented framing.
Pocket 4 are fully supported. The Pocket 3 currently works at about 80–90% functionality and should reach full support soon. The app is free and open-source. An iOS TestFlight beta is available now and an Android beta waitlist is open.
If you find the DJI Mimo app limiting—either in monitoring tools or in how it exposes camera control—OpenPocketCine offers a non-commercial alternative that concentrates monitoring, control, and cloud handoff in one configurable app. Because it is open-source, the community can add features or modify behavior to match specific workflows.
Join the iOS TestFlight beta if you use an iPhone or iPad, or sign the Android waitlist to get notified about the beta. Confirm your Osmo Pocket model compatibility before relying on full functionality for critical shoots.
OpenPocketCine is a free, community-built field monitor and controller that expands monitoring and remote-control options for DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and 4P users while offering cloud uploads for modern review workflows.
