Gemini can now read your Google Wallet to summarize spending — what it can and cannot do

Google’s Gemini assistant can access passes stored in Google Wallet and, if you connect accounts through Plaid, pull transaction data to summarize spending and suggest budgets. The feature is US-only for adults and does not let Gemini pay or change accounts.

Gemini can now dig into your Google Wallet to analyze your spending, but will you trust it?

Useful takeaways from this story.

Gemini can access boarding passes, event tickets, loyalty cards, rewards, and saved passes in Google Wallet to retrieve or summarize details on request.

If you connect bank and credit accounts through Plaid, Gemini can analyze transaction data to summarize expenses, show category breakdowns, and suggest budgets.

The integration is available only to US users aged 18+ on a personal Google account with Gemini Apps Activity enabled, and Gemini cannot make payments or modify connected accounts.

Google added a new integration that lets Gemini read data stored inside Google Wallet. That includes boarding passes, event tickets, loyalty and rewards cards, and other saved passes. The obvious convenience is being able to ask Gemini to find a boarding pass or list active loyalty offers instead of opening Wallet and hunting through saved items.

  • Pull up boarding passes and tickets saved in Wallet so you can retrieve a reference or show the pass.
  • Read loyalty cards and rewards stored in Wallet and summarize available offers or membership numbers.
  • Analyze transaction data if you connect financial accounts to Google Wallet through Plaid. With those connections, Gemini can:
  • Summarize spending over a chosen period (for example, how much you spent on groceries last month).
  • Break down where most of your money went by category.
  • Suggest simple budgets based on recent transaction history.
  • Availability: US-only and limited to users aged 18 or older.
  • Account requirements: You must use a personal Google account and have Gemini Apps Activity turned on for the integration to work.
  • No account control: Gemini cannot use Wallet payment methods to make purchases, and it cannot update or delete accounts connected through Plaid. It only reads data and produces summaries or answers.
  • Travel: Ask Gemini to pull up a boarding pass or retrieve your frequent-flyer number without opening Wallet.
  • Rewards management: Get a quick list of loyalty benefits or active offers across cards stored in Wallet.
  • Personal finance: Use natural-language requests to see spending totals, category breakdowns, or simple budget suggestions instead of manually filtering transactions.
  • If you regularly need quick access to boarding passes or loyalty numbers and accept Wallet already holds that data, the integration adds convenience.
  • If you want automated spending summaries and budgeting help and are comfortable connecting accounts via Plaid, the integration can replace manual transaction math.
  • If you prefer minimizing how many services can read your financial activity, keep the feature off and use Wallet and your bank apps directly.

The Wallet–Gemini connection bundles practical features: single-step retrieval of passes and simple, conversational spending summaries when you opt into Plaid account links. The tradeoff is greater read access to personal financial and travel data. The feature is clearly scoped so Gemini cannot transact or alter your linked accounts, but whether that scope is acceptable depends on each user's privacy tolerance and appetite for convenience.
