# What's happening MECCA is running a three-night series of artist-led workshops at MECCAVERSITY, its education space on level one of the Bourke Street flagship. The sessions are part of a Born Creative campaign and take place on three consecutive Thursdays in October.
# The schedule and what each session does
- Thursday, October 8 — Poppy Lissiman: participants will paint and customise their own makeup case. Materials are supplied.
- Thursday, October 15 — Tiffi: a beginner-friendly songwriting session focused on turning personal story into lyrics.
- Thursday, October 22 — Soraya Boularas: a masterclass on bold, runway-inspired eye makeup.
# Why MECCA is running these workshops MECCA commissioned Ipsos research that found creativity in women drops between childhood and adulthood — specifically, two-thirds of Australian women reported feeling creative most or all of the time as children, compared with about a third now. MECCA's Chief Purpose Officer Lisa Keenan framed the initiative around that research, noting confidence often falls between ages 12 and 24 due to self-consciousness and fear of judgement.
# Where the program reaches beyond Bourke Street If you can't get into the city, MECCA plans Born Creative activations at select MECCA Beauty Labs. There will also be a window installation by artist Aretha Brown at MECCA Carlton.
# Community and funding commitments MECCA's gender equality arm, M-POWER, is contributing $250,000 to The Song Room to help fund arts programs for 12,000 primary school students. It's also funding free creative workshops for more than 500 girls and gender-diverse teens in partnership with mental health charity The Flourish Journey.
