Opera for Android Adds Built-In Travel eSIM With Free 3 GB Trial

The useful part

Unlike typical browser-specific add-ons, the integrated virtual SIM delivers comprehensive cellular data access across the entire smartphone operating system. Essential installed apps such as Google Maps, ridesharing services, and communication platforms operate normally without requiring physical SIM swapping. Activating the promotional trial requires no credit card registration or personal email verification.

How it works

• Travelers complete the setup once within the application interface, and the data countdown only triggers upon physical arrival and attaching to a supported local partner cellular carrier abroad.
• The service operates in direct partnership with Holiday.com, providing subsequent paid data bundles spanning 3 GB, 5 GB, and 10 GB with 30-day validity periods.
• Because the service functions strictly as a data-only package without an assigned cellular telephone number, voice calls require standard VoIP applications.
• Connectivity defaults to high-speed 5G mobile networks wherever local infrastructure permits, automatically selecting the strongest available cellular signal to maintain seamless international data roaming...
• To encourage initial adoption across key regions, including the United States market, the browser offers an introductory promotional trial granting 3 GB of complimentary mobile data valid for three days...

What to take from it

Purchased packages remain redeemable for up to one year before departure, delivering highly competitive cellular pricing that averages roughly 33% below standard commercial third-party eSIM rates. Technical system requirements mandate a carrier-unlocked smartphone running Android 10 or newer equipped with native eSIM hardware support. The utility remains exclusive to the standard Opera for Android client, excluding specialized variations like Opera Mini or Opera GX.

Example or evidence

• Eligible destinations encompass popular travel hubs across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas, including the United Kingdom, France, Japan, and Australia.
