# Meeting snapshot Tuesday, September 29, 2026. This brief consolidates the technical points covered in the session and the immediate follow-ups engineers are pursuing.
Nectarine deployment and network issue
ObjectUpdate UDP messages. The bug can affect viewers, including the 26.4 viewer. Reproducing the issue reliably has been difficult, which has slowed finalising a fix. At the time of the meeting, a decision on the best fix route was pending and a candidate fix was likely to reach RC channels on September 30.
- Release timing for Nectarine depends on QA results once the fix is in an RC.
- Effort diverted to this network issue has delayed other planned testing and deployments.
Viewer and game_control status
Leviathan reported approval to include game_control in the 26.5 viewer, expected to be the last viewer release of 2026 once it surfaces. The game_control code still needs merging into the 26.5 branch. Game_control enables standard game controller use in Second Life: avatar movement, camera control, vehicles, and similar functions. It does not extend to advanced features like virtual keyboards or full LSL control for complex controller inputs.
Related UX items Leviathan is considering:
- Hiding the mouse cursor and disabling hovertips while using flycam with a controller.
- Adding a sub-tab to viewer preferences for future game_control toggles/options.
A fix for viewer-side problems tied to the Nectarine ObjectUpdate messages (affecting 26.4) is also on the work list.
Simulator stability and scripting
Rider Linden is back on-call and looking into a couple of simulator crashers reported recently. Harold Linden (Lua) is focused on backwards compatibility with script serialization, aiming to prevent breaking rolls when future Lua updates deploy. The work intends to reduce the chance that a scripting update will break existing scripts on regions.
Region-crossing testing and security proposal
Engineering is assembling a selection of regions specifically for region-crossing tests, likely delivered as a Snack RC channel (a mini set of regions for focused testing). That effort has been delayed while the Nectarine network issue remains the priority.
Pepper Linden has a proposal to patch region-crossing code to remove an avenue for a performance exploit caused by misbehaving clients. That proposal is part of the region-crossing conversation and is intended to reduce server-side risks when testing or deploying crossing improvements.
