Useful takeaways from this story.

Personal context appears in the post: he lives in San Antonio, has four kids, plays and DMs Dungeons & Dragons, enjoys overlanding, and manages ADHD, bipolar disorder, and an anxiety disorder.

The useful part

My name is Aaron and I have been writing software since I was thirteen years old (twenty-seven years ago). I am a senior software engineer at Credit Ninja and have worked for companies like Root Insurance and Zillow. The main focus throughout my career has been backend web development using my primary love language, Ruby.

How it works

  • In my spare time, I contribute to the Hanakai organization, working on Hanami, dry-rb, and ROM.
  • I am going to write in my own voice, only using agentic assistance for research and simple grammar and spelling corrections.
  • I have also incorporated many features on the backend of this blog to assist me in my day-to-day, like cross-posting to social media sites and a bespoke backlog built to work just the way I want it to.
  • I have begun extensive research into agentic development and am both amazed and saddened by what LLMs can do.
  • Over the last few years, I have also begun to fall in love with Rust and have published a handful of projects.

What to take from it

This will be the fourth(?) time I have rewritten my personal site, but this time I have decided to do so more for myself than anyone else. I am hoping that blogging will help ensure the creative part of my brain stays sharp. I plan to write a blog post in the near future going more in depth into the architecture of this website, so I will spare you the details until then.

Example or evidence

  • I am an avid Dungeons & Dragons player and recently started my first campaign as Dungeon Master.
  • I have been known to sit at a Commander table, twitching my legs in excitement, knowing I am going to go infinite if I can just make it to the next turn.
  • As I mentioned, I am really into Ruby and Rust, and I have had my eyes on Elixir for quite some time.
  • Sadly, my Jeep Gladiator Mojave recently became unusable, but I hope to be back out in nature again very soon.

Details worth keeping

| Aaron Allen Writing Hello, and welcome to my new website! One of my primary goals is to start blogging again. I am a big fan of touching grass and love overlanding.

Hanami, Why?: Introductions

Originally appeared on Writing | Aaron Allen . I mentioned in my Hello, world! post that I built this site using Hanami . This site may seem simple on the surface; it is, after all, just a blog. However, the backend is packed with features that help me day to day. I have built a tool that lets me cross-post to both Blu
