First, a new fantasy IP called Ignisphere, which will include a variety of media. The creator of Ignisphere is Takafumi Noma, who was the director of Unicorn Overlord. I never played Unicorn Overl
I’ve had both good and bad experiences with games backed on Kickstarter (as well as a backlog of backed games I still need to play), but this one might be the most painful. Back in 2022, we discussed the double Kickstarter for Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood, spiritual successors to Wild Arms and Shadow Hearts [...] Did
It’s been a great time lately for old JRPGs coming back! TAITO and Clear River Games have announced Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga, a collection of the first two Lufia games, to be released in 2027 for Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and PC. The first game, Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, seems [...] Did you enjoy this post? B
To say I was looking forward to the otome game Over RequiemZ would be an understatement. It’s one I had been hoping would get localized ever since it was announced for Japan, and I even named it one of my top 5 most anticipated games of 2026. So, did it live up to my hopes? All right, I want to talk about the Professor Layton situation. I’ve mentioned a few times now how I lost my enthusiasm for Professor Layton and the New World of Steam because of Level-5 going all-in on generative AI. For quite a while, I kept saying that I would wait to see if any AI [...] Did you enjoy this post? Be
As we discussed, last Thursday saw two States of Play, a regular State of Play followed by the State of Play Japan. Neither had any huge surprises, but there were still some good announcements, so let’s take a look at some of the highlights for me. Meanwhile, you can check out the full showcase if [...] Did you enjoy t

Edia has announced Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes I & II, a collection for PC and modern platforms to be released worldwide in 2027. The original Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes [...] Did you enjoy
Neowiz, the developer of Lies of P (among other games), has entered into a deal with Falcom to develop and publish The Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch for PC and consoles, as reported here by Gematsu. In case you’re unfamiliar with the history of Falcom’s RPGs, the Trails series is itself part of [...] Did you en
The Nintendo Direct was this morning, and I’ll be covering the highlights that stood out to me, so be sure to check out the full showcase to see the rest. (Actually, let’s back up: yesterday was the Legend of Zelda Direct, and while I have mixed feelings on the Ocarina of Time remake’s graphics, I [...] Did you enjoy t
We’re just coming away from the two States of Play (which we’ll discuss highlights from soon, I promise), and now it’s time for two Nintendo Directs! That’s right, Nintendo also announced back-to-back Directs, although these ones are on separate days. On September 8 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET, there will be a [...] Did you
Capcom has announced its TGS 2026 plans, and it includes a Capcom Spotlight on September 16 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. Now, we’ve gone over this before. The “Capcom Spotlight” branding usually means they’re going to provide updates on games they’ve already announced, without revealing anything new. But hey, it’s not unhear
Three years ago (has it really been that long??), we discussed Winter’s Wish: Spirits of Edo, an otome game that took me by surprise. While I’d expected to enjoy it, I wasn’t prepared for how exciting some of its routes were. Winter’s Wish didn’t end up becoming an all-time favorite or anything like that, but [...] Did
