# What the exhibition is

Tasweer opened the second edition of its Frame and Focus exhibition at Al Hosh Gallery. The show presents the final projects of 12 photographers who completed Tasweer's flagship Frame and Focus Advanced 14-week Photography Course. The work is on view until 5 October.

# What the work shows

The exhibition brings together documentary photography, portraiture and conceptual image-making. Each body of work is shaped by the photographer's cultural background and personal experience. Together, the projects form a concentrated view of contemporary life in Qatar and the wider region through themes such as home, faith, family, memory, belonging, landscape, heritage and community.

# Why Tasweer framed the programme this way

Alanoud Al Buainain, Deputy Director of Image and Narrative Practices at Qatar Preparatory School, described the course outcomes in practical terms: participants received instruction, critique and opportunities to experiment, which challenged them "to think more critically and make images with greater clarity and purpose." She added that the exhibition shows how such programmes can convert creative potential into a sustained photographic practice.

Ziyah Gafić, Director of The VII Foundation, said: "Frame and Focus affirms our belief that telling your own story is a human right—and that education in visual storytelling can be an act of resistance." He linked the programme to a broader goal of producing rigorous and personal perspectives on belonging, memory and resilience, especially "at a time of turmoil and competing narratives."

Abdulla Faisal Al Khalaf, who co-curated the exhibition with The VII Foundation, noted the varied visual languages on display and how the course supported development through learning and creative exchange.

# Events and practical details

Tasweer will host a Frame and Focus Exhibition Tour & Artist Panel Talk at Al Hosh Gallery on Sunday, 6 September at 3:00pm. The session is open to all and brings together artists, mentors and programme leaders to discuss the work and the value of photography education.

The programme is delivered in partnership with Qatar Preparatory School (QPS), The VII Foundation and Al Hosh Gallery, and is presented as part of the Qatar Creates Fall/Winter 2026–27 season.
