Dropsolid AI secured €2.5 million in financing and received VLAIO innovation support of €603,540 for a two-year, €1.7 million R&D programme on sovereign AI agents for enterprise content and digital experience management.
The award recognizes measurable contribution to Drupal — time, code, funding, and other community investments — rather than marketing claims. For Dropsolid, the recognition validates sustained commitments made over more than a year: personnel dedicated to community work, money raised and allocated to the Drupal AI Initiative, and organizational choices to invest in open technology and European digital sovereignty.
Conversations at Drupal Developer Days in Leuven (April 2025) coalesced around the need for a coordinated Drupal approach to AI. That momentum led to the formal Drupal AI Initiative in June 2025 with five founding partner companies: Acquia, Dropsolid, 1xINTERNET, FreelyGive, and Salsa Digital. Within five months the initiative reached $1 million in combined financial and full-time staff commitments.
In July 2025, Dropsolid formed a separate company, Dropsolid AI, alongside its existing Dropsolid Solutions unit. The split was made to give each mission clearer focus: Dropsolid AI to develop an open, intelligent, sovereign platform for digital experiences, and Dropsolid Solutions to concentrate on delivering enterprise Drupal platforms.
Dropsolid AI later secured €2.5 million in financing through private investment, crowdfunding, and credit lines. In August of the same year, the Flemish innovation agency VLAIO awarded Dropsolid AI €603,540 to support a two-year, €1.7 million R&D programme focused on sovereign AI agents for enterprise content and digital experience management.
The Top Tier recognition, the fundraising for the Drupal AI Initiative, and Dropsolid AI's investment and public innovation support are separate milestones but part of a single strategic trajectory. Each one marks a different type of validation: community contribution measured by the Drupal Association, collective funding and staffing for a public initiative, and external investor and public-agency backing for commercial R&D.
These actions indicate a deliberate choice by Dropsolid to move beyond using Drupal for client work to investing resources back into the project and surrounding ecosystem. That investment included consistent staffing contributions over time rather than short-term engagements.
