Harvest over — Pottinger updates Synkro, Plano, Aerosem M and Puro H 3000 for autumn tillage

Agriland visited Pottinger in Grieskirchen, Austria to see new and updated seeding and cultivating machines aimed at seedbed preparation, shallow stubble cultivation and precision planting as tillage work starts after harvest.

Useful takeaways from this story.

Machines feature quick-change options and adjustable components (rear roller removal on Synkro, quick-change tine/roller on Plano) to change working mode and manage soil compaction.

Pottinger showed implementing updates across seeding and planting range, including the implement-mounted Aerosem M pneumatic seed drill and updated Puro H 3000 precision planter.

# Overview With harvest ending for many tillage farms, Pottinger presented a set of updates aimed at preparing seedbeds and planting. Agriland's visit to Grieskirchen, Austria covered new Synkro cultivators, the Plano shallow cultivator, the implement-mounted Aerosem M pneumatic seed drill and the updated Puro H 3000 precision planter.

# Synkro cultivators — all-round cultivating The Synkro range has been redesigned to reduce weight and improve versatility. Working widths offered are 2.5m and 3m as rigid machines, and 4m or 5m in either rigid or folding configurations. Pottinger has reduced the 5m machine's weight by up to 270kg.

  • Tine counts: the 4m machine has 13 shanks, the 5m has 17 shanks, spaced at roughly 30cm. The symmetrical tine arrangement is intended to eliminate side pull.
  • Rigid models can be fitted with hydraulic depth wheels mounted at the front to maintain consistent working depth on rough or rutted fields.
  • Shanks and wings are adjustable so the operator can vary soil mixing intensity and compaction.
  • A redesigned coupling system allows easy removal and repositioning of the rear roller, enabling the machine to operate without reconsolidating the soil and leaving loose structure to reduce erosion risk.
  • Nova mechanical stone protection system, using horizontal springs and a 550kg triggering pressure intended to be maintenance-free.
  • Foldable Synkro V models can be equipped with four parking stands for storage. The machine targets universality across tillage tasks, including reseeding after livestock and maize where ruts are common.

# Plano shallow cultivator — stubble and weed control The Plano is a flat, six-row stubble cultivator brought to market earlier in the year. Its design focuses on shallow cultivation and mechanical weed control.

  • Working width: 6m (currently offered as a 6m model). Working depth: up to 15cm.
  • Tine layout: 37 closely spaced tines in a square profile arrangement intended to produce a finely crumbled seedbed and to allow passage of large volumes of organic matter.
  • Power requirement: 250hp minimum. Travel speed capability: up to 12–14 kph.
  • A quick-change system allows swapping the square-profile tine system for a rear roller.
  • New spiral spring tines are available for light to medium-heavy soils and seedbed work.
  • Wheel mark loosening tines can be fitted to address tractor wheel tracks without deepening the whole machine's setting.

# Seeding and planting updates

# Practical takeaway for tillage operators Pottinger's updates emphasize adjustable working depth, lower machine weight to reduce compaction, and modular components (removable rollers, quick-change tines) to switch between reconsolidating and non-consolidating finishes. The range aims to suit contractors and farmers preparing fields for reseeding, cereal sowing and other autumn work after harvest.

Now is the time to soil test on tillage farms

Early autumn should be used as a priority period to soil test on tillage farms, Teagasc has advised. After a difficult growing year, with drought putting pressure on grass and cereal crops, autumn is a good time to take stock of soil fertility and identify which fields need to be sampled in preparation for 2027. Video: Catch up on Ploughing 2026 Day 2

There may be many tug-of-wars when it comes to farming these days, but as far as the National Ploughing Championships were concerned, today (Wednesday, September 16) was all about good humour. While a tug-of-war, was just one of many events taking place today in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, it also had to contend w
