# What happened
# Why it matters The move places a longtime agent-facing executive in charge of REMAX as the franchisor integrates with Real's operations. Vidal's responsibilities include driving regional growth, developing services for broker-owners and agents, and helping shape REMAX's long-term strategy within the combined company.
# Who moved where
- Alex Vidal: leaves ERA Real Estate to become REMAX president. Vidal has 29 years of industry experience and built a career running coaching programs and holding operational roles at firms including Coldwell Banker Realty, Prudential Real Estate, Keyes and ERA.
- Erik Carlson: stepped down as REMAX CEO and joined the Real REMAX board of directors.
# Vidal's background and approach Vidal began in real estate at age 19 as secretary to the president of Keyes Real Estate. He has held recruiting, sales management and coaching positions across multiple national brands. In 2004 he launched TheCloserClub, a coaching program that the announcement says has reached more than 30,000 real estate professionals.
Vidal framed his move to REMAX as a continuation of his agent-focused work: "I've spent my career working alongside agents and broker/owners, understanding their businesses and helping them reach levels they may not have thought possible," he said. He added that he intends to help the REMAX network have its best year yet.
# Organizational changes beyond the presidency The acquisition and integration led Real REMAX Group to make several other moves:
- Real announced it will halt growth of the formerly REMAX-owned mortgage franchise Motto Mortgage to focus investment on building a single, scalable mortgage platform for the agent community.
- Vic Lombardo, president of REMAX's mortgage services, stepped down. Kate Gurevich, CEO of Real's mortgage operation One Real Mortgage, assumed Lombardo's role according to a company spokesperson.
- ERA announced Frank Malpica as Vidal's successor at ERA.
# What to watch next Stakeholders can expect leadership-driven integration efforts across brand operations, agent services and mortgage offerings. Vidal's mandate centers on agent and broker-owner growth across REMAX's global network of more than 145,000 agents, positioning him as a central figure in REMAX's next phase under Real REMAX Group.
